Behaviour Change Communication

Swaziland is committed to promoting social and behaviour change (SBC) programmes that focus not only on bringing about individual behaviour changes, but also lead to behavioural changes at the community and social level. SBC aims to transform structural factors that impact the adoption and maintenance of positive behaviours. SBC interventions will promote accurate individual knowledge and perception of risk, and increase individual motivation to avoid risky behaviour.

Delivering SBC interventions will require a combination of strategies that target risky behaviours and the drivers of the epidemic. SBC will also be used to create demand for increasedaccess, uptake and adherence to behavioural and biomedical interventions. The objective for the behaviour change communication programme is to strengthen public awareness and comprehensive knowledge of HIV risks and vulnerabilities in order to increase personal risk reduction and uptake of prevention services.
