The government of Swaziland remains committed to funding HIV response service, commodities and suppliers. Despite the economic challenges of recent years, this has not derailed and has a result, the government has maintained a budget allocation for HIV services in particular the budget allocation of ARV drugs. UN agencies and PEPFAR funded partners have also provided technical and financial support to HIV program service intervention including capacity building, staff compliment and other resources.

PEPFAR
PrintA Partnership Framework between the Governments of the Kingdom of Swaziland (GKoS) and the United States was signed in June 2009, This agreement focuses on reducing new HIV infections, improving and decentralizing the quality of treatment and care, rapidly expanding male circumcision services, mitigating the impacts of HIV/AIDS on vulnerable children and their families, and strengthening human and institutional capacity. The PEPFAR program in Swaziland supports the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland’s (GOKS) intensified national response to the HIV epidemic through evidence-based prevention, care and treatment programming. USG efforts will continue to support expansion of CT, and to link those with positive tests to high quality care and treatment services.

PEPFAR Swaziland leverages Swaziland’s National Response by providing resources, technical assistance, and capacity-building to ensure that interventions complement and build on existing programs and provide high quality HIV/AIDS related services while strengthening capacity of organizations and quality of programs. It works with the government of Swaziland and facilitates implementation of strategic projects through community-based organizations, faith-based and non-governmental organizations as well as the business sector. Furthermore, PEPFAR also coordinates and collaborates with other donors and other development programs to strengthen linkages and ensure a holistic and complementary approach to tackling HIV/AIDS in Swaziland.

CDC
cdclogobirdCDC began supporting Swaziland in 2004 and opened its HIV/AIDS office there in 2007. CDC works closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH), the World Health Organization, and other partners in building local health systems for a sustained response to the epidemic. CDC supports the MOH and implementing partners in building the capacity to improve the coverage and quality of HIV and tuberculosis care and treatment services. This includes the provision of clinical and community-based services, mentoring, laboratory support, provider- and client-initiated HIV testing and counseling services, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), and blood safety programming. In FY15, support to clinical services will be provided in an integrated manner at a regional level, with an increased focus on quality management. The goal is to combine these efforts with the United States Agency for International Development-sponsored voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) activities to create an effective and focused combination prevention program..
